Pleta de Mar stands on an old farming estate overlooking the sea between Canyamel and the Llevant coast: its name recalls the pleta, the dry-stone enclosure where flocks were gathered. Opened in 2017 and designed by the Mallorcan architect Antoni Esteva, this five-star adults-only hotel is made up of thirty suites in low white buildings set among lawns, dry-stone walls and gardens of wild plants.
The property has two infinity pools, one facing the sea and one among the gardens, a large saltwater pool and a heated plunge pool next to the spa, with sauna and Turkish bath. A path leads to the rocky shore of Albardans, and the sandy beach is reached through neighbouring Can Simoneta, 200 metres away.
Pleta de Mar belongs to the Torre de Canyamel group, which also runs Can Simoneta, Fontsanta and Convent de la Missió in Palma. It welcomes adults only; 24-hour reception, room service, free private parking, airport transfers on request and boat trips from Cala Rajada.
The spa offers massages and treatments, with sauna, Turkish bath and an outdoor gym. No pets. The hotel closes from November to March, and a minimum stay of three or four nights may apply in high season.
The thirty suites (Concierge Suite with terrace, Premium Suite with terrace and sea view, Luxury Suite with private chill-out area near the sea, Grand Suite) have beamed bamboo ceilings, oak floors and large windows onto the landscape; all have a lawn terrace and almost all an outdoor shower as well as an indoor one. Premium and Superior suites have an outdoor hot tub, Luxury suites a separate lounge and private courtyard; the Grand Suite is a standalone villa with its own pool overlooking the sea.
In the room: air conditioning, flat-screen TV, minibar, kettle, safe, bathrobes, slippers and toiletries.
The main restaurant is devoted to Mediterranean cooking over fire: meat and fish from the wood-fired ovens and grills, with vegetables and produce from island farms. Lunch can be taken outdoors by the pools, and the garden bar serves cocktails until sunset.
Breakfast is a buffet or à la carte. Two hundred metres away, the clifftop restaurant of Can Simoneta, part of the same group, is open to guests by reservation.
Pleta de Mar's spa has a sauna, Turkish bath and a heated outdoor plunge pool, next to the pools and the open-air gym.
The menu includes massages, among them Abhyanga, wraps such as orange and vanilla, and facial and body treatments; many suites also have their own hot tub on the terrace.
The hotel lies in the municipality of Capdepera, two kilometres from Canyamel bay and the Coves d'Artà, on the quietest stretch of Mallorca's north-east coast. A ten-minute walk along a country lane leads to the Torre de Canyamel, a thirteenth-century defensive tower.
Capdepera, with its castle, is 9 km away; Artà and Cala Rajada about a quarter of an hour; Cala Millor and Cala Torta a short drive. S'Albufera Natural Park is 36 km away, Alcúdia 42 km and Palma airport about 75 km, an hour by road.
