Originally a fortress, the Château was ennobled and passed down through generations of families. In 1989, it was acquired by Japanese investor Yasuhiko Sata, who undertook extensive renovations to transform the abandoned castle into a magnificent hotel. He also developed an 18-hole golf course across the 75 hectares of surrounding estate. The resort officially opened its doors on June 16, 1990.
