EXPERIENCE
Venetians row standing up and facing forward, with a single oar resting in a carved wooden fork, the forcola. It is the technique of the gondoliers, and it is older than the gondola itself. Row Venice, a non-profit association founded by Venetian women rowers, teaches it to visitors on handcrafted wooden boats.
After a few minutes of instruction on the water you take the oar yourself, gliding through the canals of Cannaregio, far from the traffic of the Grand Canal. No experience is needed, only reasonable balance and comfortable shoes.
The boat leaves from the Sacca della Misericordia, a short walk from Ruzzini Palace across the northern side of the city.
