A night in the medieval village of Santa Pau, at the heart of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, with dinner at Cal Sastre, the family house that has kept the cooking of the old village inns alive for three generations. The tasting menu tells the story of the area: a welcome aperitif with a glass of cava, pumpkin soup with nuts and ratafia, fesols de Santa Pau with botifarra de perol sausage, fish of the season, cannelloni filled with botifarra and mushrooms under a truffle béchamel and, to finish, yoghurt mousse from the Fageda d'en Jordà with citrus sorbet.
Fesols are the village's signature product: small, thin-skinned beans grown in the volcanic fields around Santa Pau. Dinner is served in the dining rooms of the house or, in fine weather, under the arcades of the square. The next morning there is time to climb the Santa Margarida volcano or walk through the Fageda d'en Jordà beech wood, a few minutes from the hotel.

Hotel Cal Sastre occupies two 15th-century houses in the medieval centre of Santa Pau, next to the arcaded square and the castle. Ten rooms, including Suites, Superior Doubles and Twins, furnished with antiques and teak floors, plus the self-contained El Refugi apartment; outdoor saltwater pool overlooking the Santa Margarida volcano and accessible rooms. The hotel is family-run and also acts as an information point for activities in the park.
