The Île de la Cité, at the very centre of Paris, is the birthplace of the city, where the Celtic Parisii settled 2,000 years ago. This island is the physical and symbolic heart of Paris, officially marked by Point Zéro (Km 0), a bronze medallion with a compass rose from which all French road distances are measured.
